Objective
The prompt for this project was to redesign a set of three books, with the goal of appealing to an altogether different audience. The challenge was to create these covers with limited imagery—using predominantly type.
Approach
For this project I chose three short novels by Gogol, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy. The intention was to create a “starter” kit for a younger audience to read these three great pieces of literature. Russian literature is by no means simple; they are often complicated and dealing with matters of the human soul. Thus, the design alluded to these complicated stories by overlapping lines from each book to create layers and a feeling of entanglement.
